Mantor Library, University of Maine at Farmington

A university library at the heart of its community - A cornerstone of information in Farmington, the University of Maine at Farmington’s Mantor Library has a loyal membership comprised of members of both the college and the greater community.

A Parntership Between Libraries

While the Mantor Library is set at the heart of the UMF campus, its proximity to quaint downtown Farmington makes it a natural destination for the town’s residents as well as those from nearby communities. It’s not uncommon to see college students in jeans and t-shirts reading their course books and sipping coffee (yes, it’s allowed) beside suited professionals reading the local newspaper in the library’s comfortable browsing room.

Located just a stone’s throw from the town’s historic stone public library, Mantor provides free library cards to members of the community, just as the Farmington Public Library gives to UMF students. The close partnership between the two included a recent joint $1.5 million capital campaign and proves beneficial to all lovers of information in the area.

Mantor's Collection

Mantor’s collection includes nearly 600 print periodicals and just under 100,000 volumes as well as local and national newspapers, ranging from the community Franklin Journal to the New York Times. The library also provides a window to the world for patrons, featuring Internet access and URSUS, an online catalog that is a gateway to the holdings of all of the University of Maine System libraries which includes more than two million volumes. Intimate group study rooms provide a perfect place to quietly delve into your research, while cushy couches and chairs situated around the multistory facility offer an ideal nook for catching up on your reading and relaxing.
