Somesville Library Association

Somesville Library – The Little Library by the Millpond

The Somesville Library Association has been serving the summer and year-round Mount Desert Island communities for over a century. Located near the center of Mount Desert Island and nestled by the side of Somes Sound, the Library offers up-to-date collections of current fiction, books about Maine, and an active children’s room, the center of our Reader Dog Program.

We provide important library services to a year-round community of readers, and always have an excellent group of best-sellers to complement our classic literature and non-fiction. We welcome suggestions, and are always interested in and responsive to readers’ comments!

The Librarian is skilled in providing reference assistance, is knowledgeable about rare books and manuscripts, and our computer has high-speed and wireless services. We also offer assistance in locating rare or out-of-print books for visitors, at no charge.

Our back room, seating fifteen and with a fine view of the Sound, is available for group meetings. We are open Wednesdays from 1-6 and Saturdays from 9-2 with extended Summer hours, and we invite residents and summer visitors to stop by and enjoy our collections.
