Governer Baldacci speaking at kickup off for MaineLibraries

"Libraries are at the heart of Maine communities. They serve the people of our state by providing a place to turn for books and information.

But they do much more. Libraries expand access to technology by providing internet access. They also serve as meeting places, and provide space for art exhibits and public forums. Libraries respond to many other needs in our communities."

- Gov. John Baldacci

About MaineLibraries

The purpose of this website is to promote libraries to the general public. Originally launched in 2003 as part of a statewide public information project, MaineLibraries is maintained by the Maine State Library with assistance from a committee of Maine librarians.

Background

The “Maine Libraries: Something for Everyone” campaign began in July 2002 to increase use of and support for libraries in Maine. Campaign projects included exhibits at regional and statewide conferences to promote special library services; media publicity about libraries; public relations materials such as banners, brochures and bookmarks; radio public service announcements; and a website for the general public – mainelibraries.com.  The website was developed as a clearinghouse for information about Maine's many diverse libraries and the resources they have to offer.
